Living Prophets

The Church of Jesus Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized by Jesus Christ through direct revelation to living prophets. Joseph Smith was the first prophet of this modern dispensation. The sixth Article of Faith exclaims that "We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth."

This original organizational structure of His church is explained in Ephesians 4: 11-15 of The New Testament:

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe in the New and Old Testaments of The Bible. We also believe that The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine & Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price are each books of canonized scripture.

Living modern day prophets reveal God's will for us today. They help us understand the gospel, live like Jesus Christ, and navigate the labyrinth of life and the trials we face every day. On occasion, our prophets publish statements to confirm or reaffirm our beliefs about a specific topic. Several examples are shown above: The Living Christ, The Articles of Faith, The Family Proclamation and The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. President Nelson is at the center of the photo above. He is surrounded by his counselors, which make up The First Presidency. The 12 other men make up The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as of March 2023. These faithful servants will remain in their callings until they pass away. Before they were called to be Apostles, they completed higher education degrees in various disciplines and had successful careers in fields such as medicine, law, business, etc. Along the way they lived, ministered, and taught the gospel their whole lives. They are experienced, spiritual and inspiring leaders.

These prophets, seers, and revelators also share insights, inspiration and revelation twice a year during our Semi-Annual Worldwide General Conference. These conferences are held in Salt Lake City, Utah and broadcast throughout the world on the first Saturday and Sunday of April & October every year. Everyone throughout the world is invited to participate in these conferences whether they are members of our church or not. To learn more about how to participate, please visit the links below.
