Corvallis Institute of Religion

Welcome to Institute. We offer classes, workshops, activities, and other experiences designed to help you increase your understanding of the teachings of Jesus, discover how the restored gospel can be meaningful and useful in your personal circumstances, and support you in having a positive impact in the world. We strive to create an environment where everyone, regardless of their situation or background, feels safe and supported. Welcome!

 

Institute provides an opportunity for young adults ages 18-35 to find relevant answers to life’s questions while learning from and sharing with others who are in similar circumstances. Participation in institute increases their commitment to the Savior as they have spiritual experiences focused in the scriptures.

We are so excited that you have found your way here. You are always welcome. Institute is for everyone. You are invited to look around this site and find classes and information that will help you choose which activity, event, experience you are looking for. You do not need to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to register, enroll, or even just come to institute classes. 

 

You will find good friends and experiences to uplift you and provide you with meaningful experiences.

President Nelson's Personal Invitation to Institute

My dear brothers and sisters, I love you. I think about you and pray for you often. You are living in an age unlike any other. You are at the age where you are making crucial decisions—decisions that will affect the rest of your mortal and eternal life. Making these decisions may seem overwhelming or even frightening at times. But it is also exciting because we are living in a momentous time.

May I invite you to do something that will help you in a way few other things can? Attend institute! I have now watched my children, grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren attend institute. Attending institute has been life-changing for them.

Institute has helped them, and will help you, to deepen your conversion to Jesus Christ. Attending institute will help you to feel more of Heavenly Father’s great love for you. Institute will offer you inspiring instructors, faithful friends, and a feeling of belonging. It will help you to see why living the gospel leads to never-ending happiness. Attending institute will help you to live the gospel and to feel more joy—right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend the Corvallis Institute next to Oregon State University?

All young adults ages 18 to 35 are encouraged to attend and graduate from institute. Young adults who have already graduated are welcome to continue to attend as it meets their situation and needs. Adult religion classes are available for those over 35.

How do I participate/register?

There are a few simple ways to locate the institute program nearest you:

  • Just walk into an institute building. A friendly face or two will welcome you and tell you about the classes being taught and the activities that are planned.

  • Click here to find a list of classes near you. Click on any class to view information about it as well as that institute program’s website. Click “Register Now” to register for a class online. After logging in with your LDS Account, you’ll see a list of classes and be able to register for the one that interests you.

  • Ask your local priesthood leaders—they can help you find a local institute program or class.

When are the main Institute activities?

Between the Institute and the College Hill Ward, there are many activities...contact Brother Gubelin (503-329-5570) or Bishop Kahn for specific details. These activities include things like Family Home Evening on Mondays, Wednesday YSA Event Night ~ Dinner, Institute & Games, Volleyball on Thursday evenings, Basketball on Friday evenings, frequent Saturday trips, and church worship on Sundays. The Institute building is a great place to study, hang out, learn, socialize and grow!

Is there a religious congregation affiliated with the Institute?

Yes! The College Hill Ward (congregation) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meets every Sunday from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The first meeting is held in the chapel of the Institute building.

How do I transfer credits to other Church schools?

Many institute of religion classes will transfer to Church schools and fulfill religion requirements toward graduation. Click here for more details about individual school policies for transferring religion credit.

What is LDSSA at Oregon State University?

The LDS Student Association (LDSSA) is an organization at Oregon State University that helps students balance their secular and spiritual education. The LDSSA is part of the Seminaries and Institutes of Religion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
